While used informally among collectors in the 1960's and 1970's, the term was brought to prominence with the publication of the landmark text, Disneyana: Walt Disney Collectibles by Cecil Munsey in 1974 (Hawthorn Books Inc.). The disneyana hobbyists grew exponentially throughout the 1980s and 1990s, and today's collectors can find tens of thousands of Disney items for sale at a variety of online auction sites, as well as at both regional and international comic and collectors shows.
